PRIMARY
First stage examination. Requires post-internship qualification registered with the HPCSA or any other medical council. Covers basic sciences and foundational knowledge.

Second stage examination. Requires passage of Primary plus 12 months of approved training including 6 months general surgery, 3 months ICU, and 3 months trauma/emergency surgery.

FC Cardio(SA) Final Examination
FINAL
Final Fellowship examination. Requires passing Primary and Intermediate exams, minimum six years of medical practice, four years registrar training in cardiothoracic surgery, a letter from Head of Academic unit, minimum 75 cardiac cases as primary surgeon, and submission of logbook/portfolio. The Libero Fatti Medal is awarded to distinguished candidates.
